Hi Karen –

We are reaching out to you because of your recent opinion articles on the challenges faced by veterans after leaving the military. We invite you to interview veterans about their experiences with receiving support once they have left the military at an upcoming American Legion membership drive in Maryland.

As the number of WWII and Korean War veterans dwindles due to age, finding new members is increasingly essential for the legion. This is especially true in rural areas like Laurel, where the population is aging, and younger people are often unaware of the legion's existence. In addition to honoring and supporting our nation's veterans, membership in the legion also comes with many other benefits, such as discounts on insurance and access to scholarships.

"We want to show people that the American Legion is still relevant and that we're doing good things in the community," said Laurel Post 67 Commander Bill Burke. "This event is a great way for us to reach out to potential new members and let them know what we're all about."

Activities include: Membership Drive, Car Show, BBQ Competition, Bouncy Houses, & Veteran Services.

Events like Laurel Post 67's membership drive are so important, and they help raise awareness about the American Legion's work and encourage people of all ages to get involved.

Your platform can help raise awareness of the challenges faced by veterans and the importance of providing them with adequate support. Your voice can help make a difference in the lives of veterans, and we hope you will consider using it to help those who have served our country.

Sincerely,

J. Michael Browning
