Hi McKay –
Your articles highlighting the government's need to better support veterans are inspiring. We'd love to invite you to interview several veterans at an upcoming American Legion membership drive in Maryland.
As the number of WWII and Korean War veterans dwindles due to age, finding new members is increasingly essential for the legion. This is especially true in rural areas like Laurel, where the population is aging, and younger people are often unaware of the legion's existence. In addition to honoring and supporting our nation's veterans, membership in the legion also comes with many other benefits, such as discounts on insurance and access to scholarships.
"We want to show people that the American Legion is still relevant and that we're doing good things in the community," said Laurel Post 67 Commander Bill Burke. "This event is a great way for us to reach out to potential new members and let them know what we're all about."
Activities include: Membership Drive, Car Show, BBQ Competition, Bouncy Houses, & Veteran Services.
Events like Laurel Post 67's membership drive are so important, and they help raise awareness about the American Legion's work and encourage people of all ages to get involved.
Please let me know if you'd be interested in attending the event. We have several veterans that would be interested in sitting down for interviews. If you're unable to attend in person, we could still facilitate any interviews you'd like to conduct via Zoom.
Sincerely,
J. Michael Browning
